See you where the fish are,

Bad Company Crowned 2008 Champions of Billfishing
Bisbee’s Bluewater C.U.P. Championship Debuts Cutting Edge Technology
The second annual Bisbee’s Bluewater C.U.P. Championship, which took place in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico December 4-6, hosted six sportfishing teams competing for the Crown of THE Champions of Billfishing. Over two days of fishing, 184 striped marlin were caught in this all-release tournament. In the end Bad Company won by a narrow margin over Wildcatter, the 2007 Defending Champions.
Unique Scoring Methodology
Ten teams were invited to the Championship which was the finale to the Bisbee’s Bluewater C.U.P. Series, a team-oriented series that included three tournaments in California and three in Mexico running from July through October. Teams won an invitation through a combination of participation, catch and finish points. The top ten teams were then awarded “Pole Position” points based on their overall success throughout the Series. Four teams were unable to attend, but the six competing teams were a Who’s Who list of some of the best sportfishing teams in the world.
Even Playing Field
To further even out the playing field, boundaries were set based on a 40-mile radius extending from Cabo San Lucas, local Observers were placed on boats and the event was filmed both on and off the water by an independent production crew. Mother Nature also helped out with two days of beautiful sunny, moderate weather and the bite took off well within the grid at the “Golden Gate” on the Pacific side.
Debut of Satellite Tracking Technology
The most exciting aspect of the Championship however, was the use of the latest advancements in satellite data recording and voice communication that brought to the tournament improved participant safety, better rules enforcement, more enjoyable web-spectator entertainment and elevated individual team awareness and recognition. Transponders were installed on each boat allowing web viewers to follow each team in real time and trace their location throughout the day.
True Competition
The 2008 Bluewater C.U.P. Championship proved to be a true competition between highly skilled and successful sportfishing teams with the top four teams releasing over 30 marlin each. Bad Company from Newport Beach won the Championship with 4,650 points and was crowned THE Champions of Billfishing. The first runner up was Wildcatter with 4,350 points and the second runner up was Tiger Spirit with 3,450 points, beating out C-Bandit, also with 3,450 points, by a mere seven minutes on time of last release. Wildcatter and Tiger Spirit were the only teams competing this year that also qualified for the inaugural Championship in 2007.
